Kirstie Alley + bikini = much happiness

I am really enjoying this today:

Kirstie Alley in bikini

This is Kirstie Alley, appearing in a bikini on the Oprah Winfrey show, after losing a whole lot of weight. 75 pounds, I think?

I've seen various comments on this, some supportive, some "her thighs are too thick," and so on. Personally, I think she looks pretty damn good. Notice the strategically placed wispy wrap thing, positioned to hide a bit of her hips and waist. Frankly, I'd love to see her with that removed, I think she'd be even hotter. (Hell, to be totally honest, I'd love to see her stark naked.)

Yes, I do like the young, thin, willoy or petite female body types, or the traditional larger-busted-but-thin cheerleader body type, but hey. Hot is hot, and it just happens to come in a variety of shapes and colors--tall, short, thin, thick, white, brown and black. Honestly, it isn't all about the physical features anyway, as most men can tell you. Poise, confidence, and an ability to command respect, these are all tremendous aphrodisiacs (and when it comes to these qualities, older women have a distinct advantage over their younger sisters).

I don't agree with the theory that beauty is a construct of the patriarchy, intended to oppress and objectify women, etc. etc. But I do think that it's really too bad that a lot of perfectly hot and beautiful women are browbeaten into being ashamed of their bodies (the question of where exactly that shame comes from is quite interesting, but way beyond the scope of this little post). This ridiculous social expectation and endorsement of bodily shame is why I totally and completely applaud what Kirstie Alley is doing here. By getting up on that stage and showing off her hotness, she's striking a blow for truth and courage, and that is something to be respected. (And that respect, in turn, makes her even hotter! Hey, Kirsty Alley, if you should ever happen to read this humble little blog of mine, I've got to say, girl, you're smokin'. Wanna go out sometime? We have an excellent selection of cheesy bars and cut-rate bowling alleys here. Whaddaya say? It'll be a blast! ;)
